+++[Dark Nebula Scenario 1 - Shadows in the Mist]+++

In this scenarios, the primary players are the Eldar and Chaos.  In the year 148.M41, the Chaos Warlords in the Lysdade sub-sector decided to eliminate a major thorn in their side.  Within the Dark Nebula the Eldar had established a pirate's haven, Noth'nardarian (Shadowstar) that was long used as a base to resupply the various Corsair fleets operating within the sub-sector.  At the outbreak of the war when the Eldar joined forces with the Imperial Navy, Noth'nardarian became a hub of resistance and naval center for the Eldar fleets.  Suspecting the base to moderately defended, the Chaos Warlords assembled a medium sized expeditionary force and sent them into the Dark Nebula to find and eliminate Noth'nardarian.  Months of searching eventually narrowed the location to a section of space in the portion of the nebula located in the distant outer reaches of the Bladen Hive system.

Forces:

This scenario can be played with two or four players.  If two players, it is assumed it will be Chaos versus Eldar.  If four players, then it can be played with Imperial and Ork forces with the following optional rules.  Chaos may choose a fleet comprised of 1000 pts.  Eldar can have a fleet totaling 800 pts, plus the following special units:  Noth'nadarian, deadfall torpedoes (D6+1 salvos).

If playing with four players, then the Imperial and Ork forces are free to take 500pts worth of forces.  After turn 1, each the Ork and Imperial player roll a D6, on a result of 1, they may place their ships on the battlefield as outlined in setup.  (For Imperial players it is assumed they are a battleforce on patrol on the outskirts of Bladen and detected a large Chaos force and moved to investigate, or they could be a force shadowing the Chaos fleet.  For the Orks, they were just in the neighborhood and looking for a good fight).

  Battlezone:

The Eldar specifically placed this base deep within some of the densest asteroid fields of the nebula.  Use the following generator:

d6 result:
1-3 - d6+3 asteroid fields
4-6 - d6+1 asteroid fields + radiation bursts

The Eldar player is free to arrange the asteroid fields as he wishes.  Remember the Chaos forces are going after one of the more heavily guarded Eldar strongholds, in their own neighborhood.  This scenario is meant to challenge the Chaos player.

Setup:

The Eldar player is free to split up his forces into whatever groups he wishes and places them anywhere within the battlefield.  Keep the forces off of the table and instead use contact markers to represent their positions.  Each contact marker can represent ships, deadfall torpedo salvos, attack craft (they get to place up to 4 squadrons initially), Noth'nadarian, etc.  They will remain contact markers unless they move, fire, or Chaos successfully identifies thems (moves within 30cm).

First Turn:

Chaos goes first.

Victory Conditions:

Eldar victory is declared if 85% of the Chaos force is destroyed.  Chaos victory is declared with the destruction of Noth'nadarian.
